A 11-7 loss to Valhalla completed the non-league season at .500.  Highlights of the match were two of three set wins by: #1 Singles, Wes Tabor 1-6, 7-5,6-2; #1 Doubles, “The Force” Lukas Blaha and Luke Edwards 6-2, 5-7, 6-1; and #2 Doubles David Awerman and Ryan Martindale 0-6, 6-1, 6-4.  #2 Singles, Scott Ross took one set to round the seven.

Attending managers were Jayden Tabor and Torri Sageman, and snacks provided by the Tabors. 

Defeating Granite Hills 10-8 on their home turf delivered the third win of the non-league season, and a .600 record.  Wes Tabor and the “The Force” (Luke Edwards and Lukas Blaha) produced another sets sweep in this match.  Scott Ross won two of three, and the #2 and #3 doubles teams -  one each.

Attending managers were Ashley and Kaitlyn Wilson, and Torri Sageman.  Snacks provided by the Martindales.

Another “W” was added to the stats Thursday as El Cap defeated Helix 12-6.  Weston Tabor swept sets in singles: 6-3, 6-2, 6-1, as did the #1 Doubles team, Luke Edwards and Lukas Blaha “The Force”: 6-0, 6-3, 6-1.  Scott Ross took two of three: 1-6, 6-1, 7-5, as did #2 Doubles, Ryan Martindale and Ian Rice: 3-6, 6-1,6-2, and #3 Doubles, Eduardo Santiago and Julian Wilson: 2-6, 6-0, 6-1.

Junior Varsity won their match as well 5-4.  Oriol Herrot swept sets 6-2, 6-2, 4-0.

Attending Mangers were Jayden Tabor and Kaitlyn Wilson, and snacks were provided by Mrs. Janes.

El Capitan gained their first season win in games on Thursday night.  Playing well past sunset the #2 doubles team, Ian Rice and David Awerman delivered the final winning set against West Hills’ #1 doubles team 6-2, after defeating the #3 6-4.  Contributing sets were El Cap’s #1 Doubles: Lukas Blaha and Luke Edwards three straight sets 6-3, 6-2, 6-2; #1 singles: Weston Tabor’s two sets  5-7,6-2,6-0; #2 Singles: Scott Ross’ one set 4-6, 2-6, 6-0; #3 Singles: Joe Boman’s one set 1-6, 1-6, 6-0.  The final score was El Capitan 9(83) – West Hills  9(73).

Vaqueros opened their season at Steele Canyon losing 14-4.  Highlights included the #1 doubles team: Lukas Blaha and Luke Edwards taking two of three sets, #2 Doubles: Ian Rice and David Awerman with one of three sets, and #3 Doubles: Eduardo Santiago and Julian Wilson defeating a subbed #1 team in a 7-5 tiebreak.  Scott Ross, #2 singles, took four games from the #3 singles player.

El Cap’s varsity team was represented by Wes Tabor (captain), Joe Boman (co-captain), Scott Ross, Lukas Blaha, Luke Edwards, Ian Rice, David Awerman, Eduardo Santiago, and Julian Wilson.  Junior Varsity: Colin Peretti, Orial Herret, and Teddy Skinner.

The ladies seeded 11th in the county for CIF and played the #6 West Hills.  The match was decided quickly as West Hills took 11 of 12 sets.  Our one victory was achieved by Anna Gregor and Ashley Wilson, defeating WH’s #2 doubles 6-4.   El Capitan was represented by Singles: #1 Jayden Tabor, #2 Jessica Frisbie, #3 Torri Sageman; Doubles: #1 Megan Ellis-Sarah Osterhoudt, #2 Anna Gregor-Ashley Wilson,  #3 Abby Brown-Alyssa Silvas.  After the match they had pizza and celebrated a great season of fun!

This season we had five players earn All League status: Megan Ellis, Anna Gregor, Sarah Osterhoudt, Jayden Tabor, and Ashley Wilson.   Anna Gregor was voted Athlete of the Year.  Their names will be immortalized at the Hall of Champions for the Fall 2011 Season.

The same five continued to place in the league individual tournament.  Megan and Sarah entered  the tournament as the #1 Doubles seed.  After sweeping all their matches, emerged as the Grossmont Valley Girls Doubles Champions.  Anna and Ashley, seeded #4, defeated Monte Vista’s #2 seed to be awarded 3rd in League.  Jayden Tabor, seeded #3, played a 4 ½ hour semi-final losing in three sets.  Two of the sets were tiebreaks.   She came back the next day for the final and played another three set match, lasting three hours, and finishing as 4th in League Singles.  All these amazing young women will continue on to CIF Individuals at Barnes Tennis Center.

The Lady Vaqueros finish their league season at 6-2, losing only to Monte Vista.   Varsity season highlights include:

Megan Ellis and Sarah Osterhoudt’s final record of 21-2, Ashley Wilson and Anna Gregor’s 19-4, sophomore,   Jayden Tabor’s rise to #1 singles and her ability to hold for most of the season finishing with best team singles record of 15-6. 

Notable: Ashley and Anna were undefeated in the preseason, taking two of three sets in every match against the Grossmont Hills League teams.

The girls varsity opened their season with a win in a non-conference match against Orange Glen 17-1.

Jessica Frisbie, Jayden Tabor, and Torri Sageman represented the Vaquero Varsity singles, and Doubles were: Ashley Wilson and Anna Gregor; Megan Ellis and Sarah Osterhoudt; Abby Brown and Alyssa Silvas.

Junior Varsity was equally successful in a 16-2 victory.
